Praying For Parrots

Hello mates!
Funny story: So I'm here in the library writing yous and an older man sits down at the computer next to me and looks at my tag and reads it out loud, and then says, "Mormons." I said, "Yeah! We're Mormons. Have you ever met missionaries before?" He said, "No. I've read the bible though." "Oh! Have you read the Book of Mormon?" "No. Just the Bible. King James version." "Yeah! That's the version we read too." "Genesis 1:8 it says those who believe in angles are condemned." I unfortunately don't have all of Genesis memorized so I took his word for it. He said, "That means you are going to be condemned. You belong to the wrong religion. " Hahaha! I didn't know what to say so I just said, "Okay." and went back to what I was doing.

I just looked up that scripture and it says, "And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day." So I don't know what he was talking about. Good luck to him though. When he left though, he was a little more kind and said, "You girls have a good day."
Someone had a little lime tree in their yard! So cute!

One day this week, almost everyone we met gave us something! I think we looked helpless or something... Mulberry jam, avacados, doughnut holes, ferrerrocherrs (how do you even spell that?) -those chocolate balls...soo good.

There is a place in our area people call the Fruit Bowl. All the street names are fruits! It's so cool!

A pink and gray cockatoo! I'm still trying to get a picture of the green and red and blue parrots...too quick for my camera.

As I go day by day on this mission of mine to bring souls closer to Christ, I want to recognize the things I learn and make sure I make changes to become better, you know? I sat down one night on my bed to write in my journal after a hard day full of biking all around our area only to have absolutely no one answer their doors. It was tiring and boring and I was getting down because we weren't doing missionary work, I thought. We were just riding our bikes all around. I wanted to teach people and talk to people. I had a negative attitude and was miserable. I realized that I have to find joy in the journey or else I will be miserable. On our way back home for lunch, we saw a parrot run into a moving truck and it got ran over. It was terrible! It was lying there on the street and then another car came by it and it miraculously woke up and flew away! It was so scary/sad/amazing!
My companion stopped her bike and asked if she could say a prayer for the parrot... I said, "Haha! Wait, are you serious?" She was. So I sat there on my bike and listened to her pray for the parrot. It was the most awkward 30 seconds of my life. I was trying so hard not to laugh! We got 50 cent ice creams from McD's and took pictures with street signs.
This reminded me of Madison when in Mexico and was having a down day, would have "flower fiestas" with her companion by picking flowers along the way and throwing them up into the air. It made them laugh and made them happy!

This life is FULL of ups and downs. I truly know that our attitude and our actions will greatly influence how our days turn out. We can make sad days happy and hard days a little bit easier by the way we approach them. But most importantly, God can do that too. He can help us along the way.

We have 3 people this week who we hope to put on date for baptism. I have been praying for MIRACLES in EVERY prayer we say. The Stake President talked this week in sacrament meeting and asked every member to PRAY FOR MIRACLES, and when they come, do something with them! God provides miracles for us every. day. I am trying hard to increase my faith, and decrease my fear. And along with my faith, add works to the equation. One of those works we will do this week is invite 3 of our investigators to be baptized. We know they have their agency, but we will bring the spirit to our lesson, and we pray that it will pierce through the veil of forgetfulness to their hearts and that they will know that baptism is the next step in their lives.

I love you all. I hope you are continually trying to bring yourself and others closer to the Savior every day. We are on the winning team. With the Lord on our side, we can literally do ANYTHING because HE can do EVERYTHING.

Love,
Sister Beardall
