Transfers were this week and I will be going to.......>>>>......>>>>... Forrestfield!!!
Yep. I'm staying here! I'm glad. We have a lot of work to do! I can't
believe I've been out for 6 weeks! Time flies when you're having fun. ;)
We
are teaching Mick and Chris. (Mick is the man, Chris is the woman.) We
decided to teach the Word of Wisdom this week, because it is a major
issue and we felt like they were ready! Haha. As we were walking up to
their door, Mick was taking a smoke in front of his house and Chris
drove up and got out of the car with her beer cans...I know both of us
were thinking of how this lesson was going to go down. Haha! They are
reading the Book of Mormon right now and are at the vision of the Tree
of Life. The very last verse Lehi talks about keeping the commandments
of the Lord, which was a great way to transition into keeping the
commandments so we can all experience the most delicious fruit of the
Tree of Life. Long story short, we gave each of them a word of wisdom
pamphlet and they immediately started reading it. Not good. After
ranting about how alcohol is better than tap water and much more, Mick
stood up walked away. And Chris was adamant to never give up drinking
coffee. It was chaos. Not the way we planned for the lesson to go at
all! Chris asked me if I've ever tried alcohol. I told her no. And that I
didn't even really have a desire to. I testified of the blessings of
keeping the word of wisdom and the spirit was so strong. The house got
quiet. I actually started to cry. When I feel so grateful for something
in my life, that happens. I am SO blessed for keeping the word of
wisdom! SO blessed. I know Mick and Chris gained some understanding that
evening. They understand the importance of keeping the commandments and
I know it will just take time and small efforts.
We
also had the opportunity to do some service this week! One of our
investigators, Martha, has a friend who just moved into a new house and
needed some help! All 6 of us in our district went over to her friend's
house to help her organize and get moved in. Martha was there too. When
it was time to leave, Martha told us in her broken English (she is from
Ghana), how much she loved us and was so thankful for our church. She
knows we are good people because we follow the Lord and serve others. I
think this experience will help her come closer to deciding to be
baptized. She has been baptized twice into other churches so she needs
to know for herself why it is important to be baptized with proper
authority into Jesus Christ's only true church. We love Martha!! (ps we
are teaching Martha how to read! It is so exciting! She is doing so
well. I will attatch a pic of the cards we made for her! She sometimes
cheats though and looks at the picture to guess the word. Like she said
fruit instead of food. Or happy instead of love....you know. :))
We
are trying to find effective ways to teach and find in the hot sun. We
had the idea one day to find some shade and send out inspiration texts
to our investigators and less actives and members! We got a lot of great
responses back!
Our text said:
"In need of some inspiration on a hot day like today? Read John 4:14!
Also, imagine yourself outside on this hot day and you are fortunate
enough to have a big water bottle full of cold ice water. Someone walks
by with sweat running down their face, their mouth so dry they can't
even swallow. Would you give them some water?
There are people all around us looking for the living water of Jesus Christ. So what will it hurt to offer them a drink?"
I love you all.
